La Môme, Cannes – Capturing the Essence of Elegance and Energy

When the Maybourne Riviera Magazine reached out to me for an assignment, I was thrilled to discover it was for a feature on La Môme, a gem nestled in the heart of Cannes on the French Riviera. As a photographer with a passion for storytelling, this was the perfect opportunity to blend my love for capturing vibrant atmospheres with the art of editorial photography.

From the moment I arrived, I was swept away by the lively buzz of La Môme. Founded by twin brothers Hugo and Antoine, what began as a single restaurant has now blossomed into a culinary empire occupying an entire cul-de-sac. Their vision has transformed the street into a sprawling terrace where tables brim with laughter, clinking glasses, and exquisitely plated dishes. The space exudes a charm that is quintessentially Cannes—sophisticated yet irresistibly warm.

The Atmosphere

The terrace was packed, every seat taken, yet the energy was far from chaotic—it felt like a perfectly orchestrated symphony of movement and joy. I could sense the passion that flows through the veins of this establishment, from the owners greeting their guests to the chefs crafting each dish with precision.

What fascinated me was the ingenious system for resetting tables. The table tops are interchangeable—finished tables are swiftly swapped out for fresh ones, ready to welcome new diners in record time. This clever detail was a photographer’s dream, providing an ever-changing backdrop of activity and ensuring every frame was dynamic and alive.

The People

Documenting the people at La Môme was a delight. From Hugo and Antoine, who are not just restaurateurs but the heart and soul of the venue, to the chefs bustling in the kitchen, every person contributed to the magic of the evening. Guests were immersed in their meals and conversations, their faces lit with laughter, creating an authentic, vibrant atmosphere that I was eager to encapsulate in my shots.

The Culinary Art

The dishes themselves were masterpieces, bursting with color, texture, and flair. I focused on capturing the small details that tell a larger story—the delicate garnish on a tartare, the glisten of a sauce under candlelight, the steam rising from a freshly served plate and even the fish arriving at the tables on fire! Each dish reflected not just culinary expertise but an artful celebration of flavor and presentation.

The Cocktail Experience

Before dinner, guests were invited to relax at the cocktail bar, where mixologists displayed their craft with inspired concoctions. The ephemeral cocktail, unique to the evening, was an embodiment of creativity—one that I aimed to immortalize through my lens. Watching the bartenders work was like watching artists at play, their passion evident in every pour and garnish.

Capturing the Soul of La Môme

Photographing La Môme wasn’t just about documenting a restaurant; it was about telling its story. Through my images, I aimed to convey the effortless sophistication of the French Riviera lifestyle that La Môme encapsulates. Each frame—from the glowing terrace to the close-ups of the cuisine—was crafted to reflect the warmth, energy, and elegance that make this place so extraordinary.

This assignment reminded me why I love editorial photography. It’s not just about creating beautiful images; it’s about capturing a narrative and inviting viewers to step into a world, even for just a moment. At La Môme, every detail—from the spirited ambiance to the impeccable hospitality—told a story worth sharing!
